A Microsoft employee has shared a workaround on Reddit and you can follow it to fix No Audio Output Device Is Installed error in Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809).

Note: It turns out that the second method works for almost everyone so you can skip directly to the second method.

#1. Open Command Prompt with admin privileges. To do so, select the Start button, type cmd and right-click Command Prompt from the list and run as administrator.

#3. A whole bunch of drivers will be listed and you will see something similar to the below message:

#4. You would now need to locate the oemXXXX.inf name that is listed (XXXX could be any number). It’s worth noting that you’re supposed to find the right match otherwise you might remove the wrong driver and end up breaking another functionality of your PC.

#5. Once you have found the driver, run the below command from an admin command prompt:

pnputil /delete-driver oemXXXX.inf /uninstall

In the above case, oemXXXX.inf is what you had found earlier.

#6. This will solve your problem.

Method 2

• Open Device Manager and select System Devices.
• Locate Intel Smart Sound Technology driver (SST).
• Right-click and select Update Driver.
• Choose browse from the computer and select High Definition Audio.
• Click Next.
• Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver will disappear and you should have Audio back.

Addressing No Audio Output Device Is Installed error on HP Windows 10 PCs

HP has acknowledged that there is a problem that may prevent the HP computers from using the audio system. The company has also shared a workaround that advises users to uninstall the wrong driver and restore the audio system. You can follow the third method below.

• Right-click the Start button and select ‘Device Manager’.
• Select System Devices.
• Right-click Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller and select Uninstall device.
• A uninstall pop-up message would appear and you can ignore the warning, and click Uninstall.
• Click action in the top menu and click Scan for hardware changes.

Intel responds

Intel’s support team has confirmed that the users might experience audio issues after installing KB4464330 for Windows 10 or Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Intel says that they have already identified the problem and Windows 10 October 2018 Update rollout has been paused on incompatible Intel PCs.

A fix for these issues is already included in latest Intel update and you can download Intel Graphics Driver version 25.20.100.6326 which comes with Intel Display Audio Driver version 10.25.0.10 or newer.

You’re still recommended to install the latest version of Intel Graphics and Audio Driver which is compatible with October 2018 Update. For the time being, applying the above workaround seems to be the best bet.
